From Receivership to Long-Term Operations
A Distressed Hotel With a Future
Lodging Host assumed management of the Murray Hotel in 2017 while the property was in receivership following foreclosure. The assignment required more than simply maintaining hotel operations. It meant protecting the asset, supporting the hotel team, strengthening sales and marketing efforts and helping position the property for its next chapter.
Lodging Host remained involved as the Murray moved beyond receivership. In 2019, the hotel was acquired by an ownership group that included Lodging Host, providing continuity between the property’s receivership operations, new ownership and long-term management.
Lodging Host continued managing the Murray as an independent historic hotel, supporting its operations, sales, marketing and ongoing development as the needs of the property and market evolved.
The Murray demonstrates how hotel receivership management can extend beyond short-term stabilization into long-term operational involvement and asset stewardship.

Preserving a Silver City Landmark
Originally opened in 1938, the Murray Hotel has long been part of the fabric of downtown Silver City. Its distinctive historic architecture and character give the property an identity that cannot be recreated through a traditional hotel brand.
Managing a historic independent hotel requires balancing preservation with the realities of modern hotel operations. Lodging Host works to support the Murray’s individual character while providing the operating structure, systems and corporate resources necessary to manage a contemporary hotel.
A Different Approach to Independent Hotels

Independent hotels require an operating strategy built around the individual property rather than a national brand template. Positioning, pricing, sales, marketing, guest experience and operating decisions must reflect the hotel’s market, history and identity.
The Murray gives Lodging Host hands-on experience managing a historic independent hotel while supporting both its commercial performance and the characteristics that make the property distinctive.

Extending the Life of a Historic Asset
The Murray’s evolution has extended beyond traditional hotel operations. Space on the fifth floor that had never been fully renovated for hotel use was transformed into High View Apartments, creating a residential component within the historic building without reducing the hotel’s 53-room guest inventory.
The 15-unit apartment collection includes studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts, with furnished options available in select studios. Located above the Murray in the heart of downtown Silver City, High View provides a distinctive residential option while bringing previously underutilized space within the property into productive use.
The project illustrates how thoughtful adaptive reuse can create new value within an existing hotel asset while preserving the character and identity of the building.

More Than a Place to Stay
The Murray has long played a role in the life of downtown Silver City. Its historic ballroom and event facilities provide a distinctive setting for weddings, community gatherings, corporate functions, reunions and special events.
Group and event business adds another dimension to the hotel’s operation while allowing the Murray to remain an active gathering place for the Silver City community.
A Historic Restaurant Returns
Coming Late 2026
Another part of the Murray’s history is preparing to return with the reopening of the Branding Iron, the restaurant historically connected to the hotel.
The revived restaurant will restore a food and beverage component that was once part of the Murray experience while creating a gathering place for hotel guests, downtown residents and the Silver City community.
The project also reflects Lodging Host’s broader food and beverage experience and the role restaurants, bars, catering and event service can play in both the guest experience and the overall operation of a hotel asset.

In the Heart of Historic Silver City
The Murray’s downtown location places guests within walking distance of Silver City’s restaurants, galleries, shops, cultural attractions and community events.
Rather than simply being located near downtown, the Murray is part of the downtown experience, a role the hotel has played for generations.

From Stabilization to Long-Term Stewardship
The Murray Hotel demonstrates what long-term hotel management can look like when the strategy evolves with the asset.
Lodging Host entered the property during receivership, helped stabilize hotel operations and remained involved as the Murray transitioned into its next ownership chapter. In 2019, Lodging Host also became part of the ownership group while continuing to manage the hotel, creating continuity between receivership operations, ownership and long-term hotel management.
Since then, the property has continued to evolve through independent hotel operations, group and event business, the addition of High View Apartments and the planned return of the historic Branding Iron restaurant.
Today, the Murray represents more than a hotel management assignment. It is an example of long-term asset stewardship by preserving the character of a historic property while identifying opportunities across lodging, residential use, food and beverage, events and community engagement.
